590 Madison Avenue, IBM Building
Located on Madison Avenue a few blocks from Central Park, the IBM building is pentagonal in plan and rises as a prismatic form. It was designed by architect Edward Larrabee Barnes Associates in the early 1980s. The exterior is clad in smooth, dark green granite and green tinted glass. An exterior plaza features a bright red sculpture by Alexander Calder. The entry to the building is notched at the corner, drawing visitor's into the two story lobby, which opens into a public art gallery and four story atrium. The IBM Building's atrium, which includes retail shops and is planted with bamboo, connects to another atrium space with the neighboring Trump Tower.
Aside from IBM Corp., other tenants include Crowell & Moring, Bank of America and
Smith Barney. The IBM Building is convenient to several subway lines including the 5, 6, N, Q an R trains.
