122 East 42nd Street, Chanin Building offers leases on commercial real estate, NYC | Metro Manhattan Office Space
Developed by and named for Irwin S. Chanin, the Art Deco skyscraper known as the Chanin Building is located by Grand Central Station. The base of the building features a gilded bronze bas-relief at the ground floor, and the entrance hall is elaborate. However, as it rises, the building becomes a relatively unadorned rectangular brick and terra cotta slab.
At one point, the building contained a publicly accessible observation deck, a theater and a bus depot on the ground floor, though all have since been closed. The building also originally housed Chanin's personal office space. Current tenants of the Chanin Building include the American Heart Association, Apple Bank for Savings and the International Rescue Committee. Tenants enjoy direct access to the subway, including the 4, 5, 6 and 7 trains.
