Lease NY office space in 120 Broadway, Equitable Building | Metro Manhattan Office SpaceWhen it was first constructed, the Equitable Building generated a public outcry in lower Manhattan. The developer maxed-out the lot by building a monolithic structure that contained as much rentable space as possible, resulting in a total floor area that is thirty times the area of the site. Some people even compared the structure to a large filing cabinet and cited that it cast shadows on neighboring buildings. Though the Equitable Building has become a historic landmark, at the time of its construction, it inspired zoning ordinances that required future buildings to set back in form to prevent such bulk. The design of the Equitable Building, however, is not without merits. The facade is articulated in the Renaissance Revival style, and features terra cotta detailing and the lobby greets visitors with an ornate, vaulted and coffered ceiling. Modern day tenants of the Equitable Building enjoy the large floor plates, 24-hour access and on-site management. The NYS Attorney General, Banco Popular and Lester, Schwab, Katz & Dwyer rent offices within the building.
