When 55 Water Street was constructed along the tip of lower Manhattan in the early 1970s, it was the largest office building the world. Today, it is still boasts the largest floor area of an office building in New York City. Four city blocks were combined to create a giant “super block” for the site of the building. It contains 3.8 million square feet of office space throughout two buildings, one that is 54 stories tall and an addition that rises 14 stories.
