675-691 Sixth Avenue, Mattel Building
Known as the Mattel Building, 675-691 Avenue of the Americas is located between 21st and 22nd Streets and is part of the Ladies' Mile Historic District in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood. The historic building was designed by DeLemos & Cordes architects in the Beaux Arts style and constructed in 1900.
The Mattel building originally housed the Adams Dry Goods Store, and later became a storage facility for the army, and finally a Hershey's Chocolate factory. It was eventually converted to commercial office space and was occupied by Mattel Toys. In 2000, a Barnes and Noble store opened in the ground floor, but it is now occupied by Trader Joe's grocery store. Office tenants include The Gap and the Huffington Post. The Mattel Building is convenient to many transportation options, including the F, M, N, R, 1 and 6 subway lines, as well as PATH service to New Jersey.
